The sidereal zodiac is divided into 27 equal segments of 13°20′. Each Nakshatra is divided again into four padas of 3°20′. That narrower position is why a birth time can matter even when the Moon sign stays the same.

Astronomy Engine calculates the Moon’s tropical ecliptic longitude for that UTC moment.

Convert to the sidereal zodiac
A date-adjusted Lahiri-style ayanamsa is subtracted from the tropical longitude.

The result is mapped into one of 27 Nakshatras and one of four padas. Time ranges are sampled instead of guessed.

Is my Nakshatra the same as my Moon sign?+
No. A Moon sign covers 30 degrees. A Nakshatra covers 13°20′ and can cross a sign boundary, so both are shown separately.
Why does birth time matter here?+
The Moon moves fast enough to change pada within several hours and Nakshatra in roughly a day. A small time range may change the quarter even when the Nakshatra stays stable.
What if I do not know my exact birth time?+
The free calculator checks the whole local date. If the Nakshatra and pada stayed stable, it says so. If either changed, every valid possibility is shown rather than guessed.
Why might another calculator disagree?+
Calculators can use different ayanamsas, timestamps or precision. Small model differences matter near a Nakshatra or pada boundary, so the result labels its method and limitations.
Why does personalized checkout require an exact time?+
The signed reading contract independently recalculates the Moon from an exact birth moment. The free result remains available without it; the gate prevents an estimate from being sold as verified evidence.
Is this a full Vedic birth chart?+
