A focused interpretation guide

Understanding a Janma Nakshatra result

Janma Nakshatra means the lunar mansion occupied by the sidereal Moon at birth. The zodiac is divided into 27 equal Nakshatras, and each mansion is divided into four padas or quarters.

Nakshatra versus Moon sign

A sidereal Moon sign covers thirty degrees. A Nakshatra covers thirteen degrees and twenty minutes, so it gives a narrower lunar position. The result shows both without treating either as destiny.

What the pada adds

Each Nakshatra contains four equal padas. The pada identifies the Moon’s quarter within the mansion and is used as an additional layer in Jyotish interpretation and timing traditions.

Why ayanamsa can change a boundary result

Sidereal calculations subtract an ayanamsa from the tropical longitude. Implementations can differ slightly, so a Moon very near a Nakshatra or pada boundary deserves confirmation with a timed professional ephemeris.

Transparent by design

How this nakshatra calculator works

01

Calculation

The tool calculates the tropical Moon longitude at your UTC birth moment, applies a date-adjusted Lahiri-style sidereal offset, and divides the zodiac into 27 equal Nakshatras and four padas each.

02

Interpretation

In Jyotish, the birth Moon’s Nakshatra is used to explore temperament, motivation and timing traditions. This is a reflective calculation, not a deterministic verdict.

03

Accuracy and limits

The calculation is suitable as a transparent browser estimate. Boundary births should be confirmed with a professional sidereal ephemeris because ayanamsa implementations can differ by arcminutes.

Frequently asked questions

What is a Janma Nakshatra?

It is one of the 27 sidereal lunar mansions occupied by the Moon at the birth moment. Jyotish traditions use it for symbolic temperament and timing study.

What is a Nakshatra pada?

Each Nakshatra is divided into four equal quarters called padas. The pada gives a more specific position within the lunar mansion.

Why might another Nakshatra calculator disagree?

Calculators may use different ayanamsas, timestamps or boundary precision. Small model differences matter when the Moon is close to a Nakshatra or pada edge.

Is this a complete Vedic birth chart?

No. It calculates the sidereal Moon Nakshatra, pada and Moon sign only. A complete Jyotish chart includes houses, Ascendant, all planets and additional timing systems.
