A birth chart, or natal chart, maps the Sun, Moon and planets at your moment and place of birth. It also includes the Ascendant, Midheaven, twelve houses and relationships between planets called aspects when an accurate birth time is available.
Start with your Sun, Moon and Rising signs. Then read the personal planets Mercury, Venus and Mars, notice where planets fall by house, and look at your tightest major aspects. The free result above gives every one of these pieces in that order.
Your Rising sign, or Ascendant, is the zodiac degree rising on the eastern horizon at birth. It changes quickly, so it requires both a birth time and birthplace. This calculator leaves it blank when the birth time is unknown rather than guessing.
Your Sun sign describes conscious identity and direction. Your Moon sign describes instinctive reactions, emotional needs and what helps you feel safe. Their aspect to one another shows how easily those two parts of you cooperate.
You can still calculate your Sun and most planetary signs plus many aspects. If the Moon changes signs that day, the result names both possibilities. Rising sign, Midheaven and houses are not shown because they cannot be calculated honestly without a time.
This calculator uses Whole Sign houses: the sign containing the Ascendant becomes the entire first house, and each following sign becomes the next house. It is a traditional, widely used house system and is also especially clear for beginners.
